Two years after nearly collapsing in scandal, the Press Club of Dallas resurrected its annual Katie Awards on Saturday night by recognizing the best journalism in Texas.
The club canceled the awards last year after the organization learned that a former president, Elizabeth Albanese, had rigged the previous year's judging. She had given herself four trophies in 2006, along with six others in 2004 and 2005.
At Saturday evening's award ceremony, press club leaders asked members to help restore the luster of the awards by volunteering their time to the organization, which uses the Katies to raise money for collegiate journalism scholarships.
